Ask yourself these questions next time you’re drowning in some serious mom guilt:

1) Does a perfect parent exist?

Answer: NO!

So stop with the perfection quest already! Focus on the time you have together and soak it up!

2) Does every mother make mistakes?

Answer: YES!

Whether it’s dropping your baby, bumping his head against something while you’re carrying him, or not rescuing him from a fall in time (!) — you can’t imagine now that any of these things could happen to you (and maybe you’ll get lucky!) but odds are accidents will happen. No one is really immune. So yes, you should be careful. But to beat yourself up when the inevitable happens is pointless and destructive.

3) Shouldn’t I strive to be the best?

Answer: YES!

BUT even if you’re a self-proclaimed “Type A” kind of person, you need to know that parenting, like teaching, is an art not a science and most of its success lies in the effort and enthusiasm you bring to the “classroom.” Compete against yourself in that regard…try not to compare yourself to other moms you know. Your baby isn’t judging you against them and you shouldn’t either.

4) Are my intentions coming from the right place?

Answer: YES!

So give yourself a little bit of a break, for goodness sake! You know your heart’s in the right place and you’re not perfect. It’s okay to be “practically perfect!” 😉

5) Do I need to “let it go?”

Answer: YES!

There’s no good that comes from secret shame. Redirect your thoughts to something positive when your mind starts dissing you. Be like a Disney princess and just let it gooooo!
